Almudena Grandes (Madrid, 1960) first made a name for herself in 1989 with Las edades de Lulú (The Ages of Lulu) winner of the XI La Sonrisa Vertical Prize.
Since then her novels, Te llamaré Viernes, Malena es un nombre de tango, Atlas de geografía humana, Los aires difíciles, Castillos de cartón and El corazón helado, along with her collections of stories Modelos de mujer and Estaciones de paso, have made her one of the most established and internationally renowned names in contemporary Spanish literature.
Several of her works have been adapted for cinema and theatre, and have been awarded, among others, the Premio de la Fundación Lara, the Madrid and Seville Booksellers Award, the Rapallo Carige Award and the Prix Méditerranée. With her multi award-winning novel Inés y la alegría she began the series Episodios de una guerra interminable, which also includes El lector de Julio Verne (selected by readers of El País as best book of the year 2012) and La tres bodas de Manolita.
